Comfortable living in a compact one-bedroom appartment

Comfortable living in a smaller space.

What does it take to make a compact home feel truly comfortable? We had to resolve all essential storage needs, optimize the layout, and preserve a sense of comfort and well-being.

We used a wide range of natural materials, softer rounded forms, bespoke built-in furniture and carefully selected statement pieces that reflect the client’s personality. Each room was designed individually, yet they are all connected through a cohesive palette of colors, materials, and accessories. Wooden wall paneling and earthy grey-brown tones run throughout the interior, giving the apartment a unified design language while allowing each space to retain its own character.

The space for the kitchen was not particularly generous, but we managed to design the cabinetry in a way that allows for comfortable, efficient use with minimal compromise. Given the layout of the kitchen positioned between two walls, we decided to introduce an additional material into the space: ceramic tiles. These enrich the compact area with texture and add visual depth.

The same ceramic tiles were used in the bathroom, combined with small-format tiles. The bathroom layout allowed for very limited changes, and every element had to be designed with millimetre precision. Despite these constraints, we were able to incorporate a significant amount of storage, primarily through custom-made solutions. The small space was maximized and now feels pleasant, fresh, and highly functional.

In the bedroom, we incorporated a variety of natural materials such as linen wallpaper, a soft rug, fabrics, and upholstery with natural fibres, which soften the space and enhance the feeling of comfort. The design also includes a narrow vanity table with practical drawers, creating an additional zone that can be used as a home office. Both in the bedroom and throughout the apartment, we introduced several designer statement pieces that reflect the client’s taste and add a sense of individuality and subtle luxury.

Last but not least, we focused on the design of the entrance hall, which always creates the first impression of a home. The open, compact floor plan means that the hallway is visible from most of the apartment and remains an integral visual part of the interior. This also required concealing the electrical cabinet near the entrance door. The arched wall details are therefore not purely decorative -as they serve a functional purpose by hiding elements we prefer not to see. Naturally, the flooring plays a key role here. The distinctive marble tile acts as a jewel that visually separates the entrance zone from the rest of the interior and gives the space a unique character.
